Steve's Discography

Whistle Stop Town CDSteve Roberson, Whistle Stop Town

My first all-solo release, this disc was a labor of love and self-absorption. I wrote all the songs, performed all the vocal and instrumental parts, and recorded the whole project -– setting up every microphone, pushing every button, turning every knob -- in my home studio. Those who know me, and can find meaning in even the most obscure lyrics, will hear substantial portions of my life story between the lines: my vagabond years (This Road I’m On, Whistle, Amazing Grace), love won and lost (This Little Romance, I Don’t Need You Any More, Somehow), the death of a close friend from AIDS (Pete’s Tune), the hope of redemption (Long Road To The Promised Land). The disc also includes Hurricane Bessie, Somehow, and the Civil War narrative Cold Harbor, which won honors at the 2003 Boston Folk Festival. Recorded in 2003 at Back At The Ranch Studio.

Back at the Ranch CDSteve Roberson and Paul Morgan, Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Paul and I have been playing music together for over thirty years. We started as a couple of teenagers sitting in a small room on a series of snowy afternoons, with one guitar, two voices, and a handful of songs that we both knew well enough to begin and end together. Over the years we have grown older (it happens, if you’re lucky), held jobs, married, raised kids, and experienced all the highs and lows that life brings. We’ve played in a number of bands off and on, together and with others, and while it was never a great way to make a living, it has turned out to be a pretty good way to make a life. And we’re still at it, which amazes us as much as anyone. In the early months of 2002, we began spending Sunday mornings together in my backyard recording studio. We played a lot of songs, had a lot of laughs, and always knew that there was something special happening. This disc is a record of those times, and includes songs by Bob Dylan, The Band, Tom Paxton, and others, as well as three original songs. Welcome to Sunday morning, back at the ranch.

Radio Showers CDPt 73, Radio Showers

I appeared on this disc with my good friends and musical collaborators Pat Dreier and Tony Paolino, contributing acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, and backing vocals. The CD also features appearances by Jamie Walker and Paul Kochansky (of The Swinging Steaks), and Joe Moody. Recorded in 1994-95 at Danger Multitrack Studio in Providence, Rhode Island, and released by American Music Group (AMG). Currently out of print.
